About Our Challenges

If you are new to the Writelink Challenges then please take a moment to read through these brief notes!

  • The Challenges consist of one monthly and one quarterly contest.
  • They are always themed and cover fiction, poetry, non-fiction and occasionally song writing or novel writing.
  • Word count for the monthly Challenge is usually low, around 250 words for prose and 20 – 24 lines for poems which are ideal for practicing tight writing and are designed to act as a spring board for further development into longer pieces.
  • The quarterly contests have longer word and line counts as there is more time to submit.  (3 months).
  • We offer cash prizes for the winner and sometimes books or software for the runners up.
  • All entries must be posted direct to the Challenge site and are available for peer review.
  • Judging is by independent adjudicator to ensure fairness.  Your entries will also appear anonymously so judges will not know who has posted.
  • The entry fee for the Monthly Challenge is £3 and allows you to enter as many times as you like while the contest is open.
  • The entry fee for the Quarterly Challenge is £5 which allows a maximum of 4 entries.
